  • Why I am in Education: Prior to teaching, I spent several years involved in cancer research.  While I felt my efforts and findings were important, I was looking for something that would be different every day, and wanting interaction with something other than mice.  As I ventured into teaching, I knew how much I loved Biology and hoped to show others the wonder of life.   I have loved every second of teaching Biology and watching eyes light up when connections are made as to why things work the way they do.   Knowledge has the power to change lives and helping instill confidence in young minds is amazing.

As a teenager, I decided I wanted to be a science teacher while working at a local Scout camp, teaching nature-related classes. During undergrad days at USU I thought many times about changing my major from science education to something else, but I’m grateful I never did! In my spare time I enjoy playing jazz piano in a trio, mountain biking, backcountry skiing, gardening (“workin’ on me farm”), and reading. As a family we enjoy popsicles, joking around, and camping.

  • Why I’m a teacher: I enjoy working with youth. Teens have excellent ideas, questions, work ethic, humor, and leadership ability. And science essentially is the exploration of nature; questions and curiosities about nature are endless.
