What’s Up, Fremont High School?
Tennis: Rennan McConkie made it to the semi-finals at the #2 singles. Fremont has not had someone make it to the second day for years. Congratulation to Coach Kirsti Hall and the Tennis Team for a wonderful season!
Golf: Fremont Golf team finished 8th at State this year. Congratulations to Coach Jeff Clifton and the Golf Team as well! Latinos in Action: LIA has started tutoring at Plain City Elementary. We have 21 students that will tutor for about an hour 2x a week. We will be working with 14 2nd grade students and 6 3rd grade students. We have this really cool fan that we bought from the prison in Gunnison.
Cross Country: Cross country is going well and are close to finishing out the season. We have had amazing performances all across the board this season. Last week the team went to region and had a great performance with the boy’s team taking second and the girls taking third which qualifies both teams to go to state. There were five athlete who placed in the top ten. Bronson and Zach Winter took first and second place with Bryce Tohlman in sixth. Mazzie Melaney took second overall on the girl’s side with Megan Terry in 7th. At region, of the 73 Fremont athletes who ran, 70% of them had a season best, so it was exciting to see all the kids end the season on a high note.
Traditions have stayed alive thanks to the town of Plain city, we do our yearly junk run to see which group comes back with the best junk. The community gave some great items this year including an organ, slot machine, grill, and oh so many other fun things, it’s great to live in a community that supports these kids so much.
The season finishes out with State on October 18th at Sugarhouse Park. Many of the team will continue to train after state for the footlocker western nationals in California. These kids are an amazing group, it is fun to not only see them run but to be team players, by being supporting, caring, persistent, dedicated and oh so much more. They truly are a XC family.
Shoutout: Maggie Phipps, a sophomore, is currently ranked 4th in the world in the sport of 'wake surfing' behind a boat.
HOSA: HOSA just organized a blood drive with ARUP. We collected 50 pints on October 4.
Fremont HOSA has started a partnership with Weber County CERT. We have several students currently taking the CERT training every Thursday night. They are learning how to care for their communities in emergency situations. So far they have learned about terrorism and natural disasters and how to help others during the aftermath when the emergency resources are stretched too thin. Our students have used their training from the classes they have taken at Fremont and the WIC center such as Emergency Medical Responder and EMT to rise to the top of the CERT class, where they are by far the youngest involved. They plan on using their skills to begin a student CERT team at Fremont that will work with the Emergency Preparedness Team. They will be competing at the State HOSA competition in March to show what they have learned. We hope to have another group of students take the training in the spring to continue to grow our student CERT team.
Chalk Art Festival:
One of our amazing art teachers, Mrs. Montierth, does a wonderful chalk festival every year. This year, the winners are (in order):

FFA: Our FFA students competed again this month on October 10th and did extremely well! Craig Demorest, one our great advisors, said this: “Hello everyone! Just thought I would send out the results on our first CDE contests of the year. We spent the day at Snow College on Tuesday while our students took part in six contests. The results were that Cheyenne Breeding placed 2nd individual in the livestock contest and Rhett Wade 3rd place individual in the Dairy Judging contest. Please if you see them give them a shout out please. The worked hard and received the payout.”

Orchestra:
