What’s Up, Fremont High School?
Welding
Region Skills USA 2018 welding contest participants. The welding team from FHS competed with high school teams from our area. They placed very well. Dakota 1st, Zack 2nd, Colby 3rd. All placed in the top 10.
Way to go Silver Wolf Welding.
In early 2018 my son that is attending Montana Tech in mining engineering came to me with a proposal. The students are competing in a contest that NASA puts on. The contest is to design and build a mining robot that could be sent into space to mine. They wanted to involve us in the fabrication of the components. The material we would work with is aluminum. It has to be welded using the GTAW process. What a great opportunity for us to participate in. We fabricated Loader Arms, Loader bucket linkages, and track frame rails.
Bailey Alvey, Dakota Swain, and myself spent hours in the FHS weld shop working on the projects. It was enjoyable to work with these students on the same project as a fellow welder.
DECA
28 Fremont kids competed at Region DECA competition at Weber State on February 1, 2018
31 students are signed up for the State DECA competition on February 22-23, 2018 at Davis Conference Center.
Art:
Cooper Brown, a talented senior at Fremont High, was selected as the first place winner of the Utah Senate Visual Arts Competition. Cooper was presented with the award and a $5,000 scholarship in the Senate Chambers during the legislative proceedings at the Utah State Capitol on February 5th.
Cooper's piece is an acrylic on canvas of a Native American girl. It was purchased by the state and will permanently hang in the Capitol. Cooper's art teacher, Michelle Montierth, said this is the first time a Fremont student has received this prestigious recognition. Cooper is the son of Matt and Cheridan Brown of Hooper.

Congratulations!
Fremont HOSA/Health Science
We are hoping to take about 20 students to State HOSA Competition next month. The students are finishing putting their event projects together and practicing their skills.
Our Student CERT Team was made official within the school and has sparked an interest in the younger students. We have 6 more students enrolled in the CERT class which just started for the spring. These students will be ready to take over the reins of the Student CERT Team for the next school year. We have had some great times in class learning how to work together to use our medical backgrounds to be prepared to serve our school and community when they are in need. We are excited that the interest has grown and at how professional our students are as they take the lead in executing emergency plans.
We have learned a lot from our new partnerships with CERT and MRC this year and have had several comments from them as to how surprised and impressed they are by our students and their abilities. We look forward to continuing to work together to strengthen these partnerships.
We received grants from the WSD Foundation and from the Superbowl of Caring to be used to further our ongoing food pack project. Our HOSA students pack 60 food packs each week and deliver them to two of the elementary schools in our cone as well as to some of our own Fremont Students who are in need. Over the past 4 years we have followed WHS lead in this food pack project, but last year we decided to go an extra step and designed the first High School Program in the State. This year our students have really gotten behind it and run the program almost completely on their own; setting up food drives, packing the food packs, coordinating and delivering them each week.
Nite To Shine
On February 9, 2018 the Tim Tebow Foundation hosted a prom for special needs children ages 14 and older across the globe. The event is called Night to Shine and a local prom was organized by Lisa Williams and hosted at HUB 801 in Ogden. The special needs participants danced the night away while dressed in formal attire, ate dinner, played games, sang karaoke and took a ride around the city in a stretch limo. In addition, every special needs individual was called to the front of the ballroom one at a time to receive either a king or queen crown! The FHS football team helped with the event by greeting the special needs participants on the red carpet with cheers, applause and high fives. It was an incredible night for everyone involved and an excellent way to celebrate people with special needs. The FHS football team would like to thank Lisa Williams, the Tim Tebow Foundation, and all the volunteers for allowing us to help with this incredible event.
FCCLA
Jerrie Lin Hansen, Natalie Wilson, and Megan Barratt teach our FCCLA students. We are so excited and proud of our FCCLA members. They competed in their region competition at WSU and they did amazing! All of our students that competed received silver or gold in their category.

Teacher of the Year
Fremont choir teacher selected as the 2017 Music Educator of the Year!
Fremont choir teacher has been selected as the 2017 Music Educator of the Year!
Geoff Anderson, choir teacher at Fremont, has been selected as the 2017 recipient for Music Educator of the Year from the Utah High School Activities Association. This Distinguished Service Award honors individuals for their service and contributions to high school activities. This is Geoff's 24th year as choir teacher and director at Fremont.
Geoff took upon himself the challenge of creating the music program at a new high school, creating standards of excellence and tradition through instruction, performance, mentoring, and service. He has positively influenced thousands of Fremont students throughout the 24 years he has taught at the school. He currently directs six ensembles, including three auditioned choirs, two non-auditioned choirs, and a handbell choir. He has taught 11 years of Advanced Placement Music Theory classes as well as a Weber State University Concurrent Enrollment Music Appreciation course at Fremont. Geoff is a supportive chairperson for the performing arts department, spending countless hours at drama productions, dance, band and orchestra concerts, as well as community productions. He designs lights and sound for each school production, assembly, or any outside group who uses the Fremont auditorium.
For nearly a quarter of a century, Geoff Anderson has quietly served his students, his school, the Weber School District and the state of Utah as a representative of the very best we have to offer in music education. His legacy will last many generations.
Cheerleaders
Our cheerleaders work hard and put in a lot of time behind the scenes to bring excellence and school spirit to Fremont. On top of their busy schedule with early morning practices and long days with games at school and away, they are also involved on weekends with cheer competitions.
