Seussical the Musical!
We are hard at work already with Seussical! Show dates are Nov. 9, 10, 12, 16, and 17. Tickets will be available starting in October at fhs.wsd.net. We had auditions for the show this past week, and ended up with close to 90 students in the production. We will also be adding a live orchestra and stage crew with around 30-40 additional students. Each of these students will spend weeks learning all the music, choreography, blocking, and scene changes for the show. I will try to send you more pictures and updates as they come.
Sterling Scholars
We have started Sterling Scholars off with a bang! Tate Flint won two categories and it was a difficult choice, but he finally decided which category to go with. Here is the list of winners. If you see these students in the halls or in class, give them a congratulations. A lot of them are nervous and possibly overwhelmed. I believe your support will help them succeed!

Fremont English Department Haunted Stories Contest
Fremont's annual Scary Story Contest wrapped up near Halloween. This year we had around 50 entries. After much deliberation, the student editing staff of The Howl Chronicles chose the following winners:
1st place - Ryken Nye - James' Friend
2nd place - Suffocating Silence - Kailey Phillips
Honorable Mention - Morgan Sanford - Paranoid
1st and 2nd place will be published in this year's literary magazine, The Howl Chronicles, which will be available in March 2019.
Fish and Wildlife Team
A new club has launched this year at Fremont—the Fish and Wildlife Team, or “FAWT” for short. This is a group of students committed to learning more about fish and wildlife, and doing outdoor research. We’ve had a busy fall season. On September 20 we visited Box Elder Creek in Mantua, and used a backpack electrofisher to sample fish and help Division of Wildlife Resources with a population estimate. We found lots of brook trout; the photos that follow were taken on that trip.
On October 5 we worked on Willard Creek in Willard Canyon. The terrain was a challenge and we first attempted to shock fish on a part of the creek with waterfalls, but we gave that up and moved higher to a gentler creek flow. We found rainbow and brook trout there, but weren’t able to complete the “two-pass depletion” that Division of Wildlife Resources requires for a population estimate.
On October 29 we visited Three-mile Creek, east of Perry. That canyon has some ecological damage, and the riparian area needs some restoration work. We found some small brook trout there, as well as a deer skull. In the future, we may attempt to shock higher up on the creek where stream width and depth may be greater.
During first quarter we met during Flex, doing activities to improve our knowledge of fish, mammals, plants, birds, and invertebrates. We made plaster casts of mammal tracks, made “wormeries,” and began using the iNaturalist app to search for insects, plants, and birds in the fields around the high school. We also installed pitfall traps to catch insects, as well as insect nets.
Beginning second quarter, we are meeting Thursdays from 2:30-3:30. This last Thursday we went to a nearby canal and took water quality measurements, which we’ll report to Utah Water Watch. Students are welcome to join our club! If you’re interested, please contact one of our club officers-- Lexi Francis, Hanna Shuman, or Markis Thompson—or contact Mr. Watkins in B-107. We are blessed to live in a land rich in ecological diversity, and it’s our goal to better understand that land and its abundant life.

Fish and Wildlife Team
FFA
One thing to announce is that our November Social is on the 28th at the Weber county Ice sheet at 7pm. Try to come early to try on skates, we will be ice skating. The cost is 5.50 (including skate rental) plus bring money for concessions.
Another thing that will be be starting is our Sub For Santa fundraiser. Along with the school we FFA members do our own as well to help out members in our chapter in need. We will get you more info as it gets closer but this year there will be good awards for how much money we raise.
