fremont high teen center ribbon cutting December 10th 2024

Fremont High School hosted a memorable ribbon-cutting ceremony last Friday to unveil its new Teen Center, the fourth of its kind in Weber School District. Designed as a safe haven for students facing challenges such as homelessness and food insecurity, the Teen Center represents the district’s ongoing commitment to supporting its students.

The event began with a warm welcome from Emily Oyler, Executive Director of the Weber School Foundation, who expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts that brought the project to fruition. Guests were treated to a musical performance by the Fremont High Choir, directed by Josh Musselman, setting a tone of celebration and hope.

Superintendent Gina Butters delivered an emotional address, sharing the impact that Teen Centers can have on students’ lives. “Teen Centers are the physical embodiment of kindness,” she said, emphasizing the importance of creating spaces where students feel seen, heard, and supported. Principal Alicia Mitchell echoed this sentiment, thanking the Fremont community and encouraging students to utilize the center as a place of connection and care.

Steve Kier, Chair of the Teen Center Committee, highlighted the journey that began with the opening of the first Teen Center at Two Rivers High School and has now expanded district-wide. He praised the many donors and partners who made the Fremont Teen Center a reality, including the Policy Project, which secured over $1 million in funding, and contributors such as the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation.

The ceremony also acknowledged the contributions of Fremont High’s cheerleaders and student government, who helped welcome attendees and showcase the school’s vibrant spirit. The ribbon cutting was led by the Spikers from the Ogden Weber Chamber of Commerce, followed by self-guided tours of the center. Guests enjoyed tacos provided by Buxton Masonry and sweet treats prepared by Fremont’s ProStart program.

The new Teen Center offers a welcoming environment and essential resources for students in need. It stands as a testament to the power of community and generosity. With this latest addition, Weber School District continues to lead by example, ensuring that every student has access to the support they need to thrive.
